The adidas X 18.1 FG in Off White and Core Black comes from the Spectral Mode pack, adidas's pale, pared-back collection from September 2018. It was the laced edition of the X 18, launched alongside the laceless X 18+ that adidas's X players switched into for the Champions League group stage, in a slightly off-white, eggshell shade with a faint shimmer.

The upper is Speedmesh, a very thin, lightly perforated mesh over a slightly thicker underlayer for a barefoot feel on the ball, with a thin protective layer around the toe. A low-cut Clawcollar in stretchy Techfit compression material, a four-way stretch tongue and a 3D moulded, padded heel lock the foot in. Underneath, the lightweight Speedframe outsole pairs arrowhead studs in the forefoot with round studs at the heel.

This pair is a US 11, new with defects. Age and storage have yellowed it, most visibly on the translucent soleplate and studs and across the mesh upper, while the Three Stripes and collar have stayed closer to white.

The adidas adiPure IV brought adidas's heritage-styled leather boot into the lightweight era. Launched on January 1, 2011, it was the lightest adiPure yet, and the first since the original to return to central lacing and a tongue separate from the upper. This pair is in Black and Splash Blue.

The vamp is supple kangaroo leather in adidas's OneTouch construction, stitched to support the leather's natural stretch so the fit stays consistent in wet and dry conditions, with ULT-K leather at the heel. One of the Three Stripes moves from the back of the set to the front, a small shift that adds to the classic look. Inside, neoprene pads soften the ankle and the sockliner adds heel cushioning; underneath, a lightweight TPU soleplate carries TRAXION studs for grip and even pressure distribution.
